Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not.’
Dr. Seuss
The success of the fundraising campaign relies on the help of parents and others volunteers. By providing your time not only will you contribute to a renewed school yard for your children to enjoy, but you will also teach them the importance of giving and engaging with the community.
The Saint-Francois-d'Assise parent council is actively seeking interested individuals over 2016-17 and 2017-18 who can contribute their skills and knowledge in any of the key fundraising activities identified below. Both French and English speaking volunteers are welcome to ensure we can effectively reach out to potential donors, and to reflect the linguistic diversity of families at Saint-Francois-d'Assise.
The parent council and school management would play a key role in supporting volunteers and providing guidance on general objectives and parameters for activities to be undertaken. However, the groups identified below would have flexibility in identifying their priorities and deciding how they want to be organized.

- Special events – Do you have lots of fun ideas and like organizing activities? Do you enjoy working with others? We are seeking creative individuals to identify and organize fundraising events. This could include finding ways to generate revenues through, for example, the sale of goods or by hosting one or more special events for the school community or the community at large. There is a lot of work involved in planning an event but it also provides an opportunity to connect with other parents and to directly enhance school spirit and sense of community. This group of volunteers would need to brainstorm for ideas first thing when classes begin in September to prioritize activities to be undertaken over the 2016-17 and 2017-18 school years.
- Corporate donations – Are you a natural salesperson or have an ability to persuade others? Do you have connections with local businesses or larger businesses that service the school's catchment area? We are seeking individuals to reach out to businesses, both in writing and in-person, to request donations. This could include both monetary donations, which would be of primary focus, but could also include in-kind donations to support any special events that would be organized. This group of volunteers could also identify creative ways to publicly recognize donors to further encourage corporate donations.
- Grants and bursaries – Do you enjoy writing and researching? We are seeking individuals to prepare and submit applications for eligible grants. This would involve undertaking research to identify funding opportunities with criteria that would align with the goals of the proposed school yard renewal plan. For example, this could include seeking funding through a range of charitable foundations or established grant programs aimed at 'green' projects or promoting active children.
